The Team here at Pajama Warmer is all about the enjoyment of warmth, and on this page you'll find our growing collection of tips and products we recommend to help you stay warm. And of course our #1 tip is to use your Pajama Warmer to Start Warm and Stay Warm on chilly days!
Dressing For Warmth
Layering is the best way to dress for the always cold person. Layers help trap heat and keep it close to the body, and if you get too warm, you can always remove a layer or two. Hats are especially important when outside, and even around the house a light hat or even scarf wrapped around the head will help you to stay warm. A lot of our body heat is lost through the head region so a hat and even a turtleneck or scarf around your neck will help. Remember warm air rises so all your heat is always working it's way up your body.
Mittens or gloves are also a must when going out in cold weather, and warm boots or shoes are necessary too. Mittens are warmer than gloves because the fingers stay warmer when they touch each other.
It's also important to keep your outerwear dry, as wet skin causes a chill very quickly. Buy clothing in fabrics that wick away moisture such as the new microfibers and even silk. Unfortunately cotton is not good for this, so if you are unable to wear synthetics make sure your outer most layers are waterproof, and also windproof as a cold wind will also chill you pretty fast.
Other great layering ideas are tights, long underwear, fingerless gloves for around the house, and quality wool socks, clogs or shoes. Wool sweaters and wraps, especially soft and luxurious cashmere are also great insulators and wool helps you stay warm while still allowing your body to breath. At night choose flannel or silk pajamas. These fabrics feel warm, cozy and even luxurious, and again they allow your body to breath which contributes to a healthier and more restful sleep.
Make Your House Feel Warmer Are you looking for ways to make your house feel warmer, without raising the thermostat and your heating bills? Here are some tips to help your home environment feel warmer, or things you can do at home to keep warm.
1. Use a humidifier as moist air is warm air. It's also healthier for you and your plants in the winter to maintain adequate moisture levels in your home.
2. Bake, boil and steam. Baking puts more heat into your home and also provides emotional warmth and enrichment. Boiling and steaming food releases more moisture into the air to help maintain healthy humidity levels and make the air feel warmer. Also, leave your oven door ajar when you are finished baking so some of the heat is released into the air as the oven is cooling down.
3. Use red, yellow and orange as accents or even paint colors around your home. These colors are visually warm feeling. Looking at them helps you feel warmer because of the response triggered in your brain. Just don't over do it, as to much of these colors can be over stimulating.
4. Use lots of layers on your bed. Quilts, comforters, blankets and sheets all trap warm air just like dressing in layers does. And if you get warm you can always remove a blanket or quilt. Opt for natural fabrics and batting such as down as down is a great insulator, but also lets your body breath. Use your Pajama Warmer to warm up your bed while you are warming up your pajamas and your bed will be nice and warm when you are ready for sleep. Electric blankets can also be great for warming up your bed, but it's not healthy to sleep under them all night. The can wreak havoc with your body's internal thermostat and temperature regulating system making your "always cold" problem worse in the long run. There are also some studies that indicate sleeping under an electric field all night can have negative long term effects on your health.
5. Light candles. Candles give off heat, and also add an inviting ambiance to your home. Choose candles made from waxes such as soy, palm or beeswax instead of paraffin to eliminate toxic soot and petrochemicals being released into the air in your home.
6. Use your Pajama Warmer around the house to help you keep warm. You can sit on it, put your hands or feet in it, and of course warm up your clothing items and even lotions and oils so they are warm when you put them on. It's great for taking the chill off anything. There are so many uses for your Pajama Warmer, you'll wonder what you ever did without it!
Help Your Body Warm Up
Exercise is your body's best friend when it comes to keeping warm. 20 - 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise will help your body warm up and keep warm even after you are done exercising. And exercise also helps your body to tolerate cold better and develop better circulation. Keeping hydrated is also a must if you are always cold so drink plenty of water because proper hydration is crucial for a well functioning body. Caffeine, alcohol and soda are not good for hydration, so have some warm soup or a cup of decaf tea instead.
Snuggle - with your husband, wife, child, friends or even a pet. Not only is this satisfying on an emotional level, but bodies always react to each other with warmth. It's how we survived the dark ages huddled in caves together to stay warm.
Workout & Travel Warmth
We have had a couple of great ideas submitted by our Pajama Warmer fans to help make your workouts and vacations more comfortable.Â
From Peggy: "I work out in the am and I could use the warmer to warm my work-out clothes. I would have the warmer with the clothes inside by my bed, then when I woke up I could turn it on and while I'm stretching in bed, my work out clothes would get warm. I hate cold work out clothes in the AM.Â
And here's a handy tip from Karen: If you slip your wet swimming suit inside a plastic bag and then put it in the warmer, you would be putting on a warm, wet suit instead of a freezing cold we suit. Would be great for vacations where your suit is hanging in a hotel bathroom and doesn't get completely dry.

Kills Bed Bugs!
Are you concerned about getting rid of bed bugs? Bed bugs are increasing at an alarming rate, and there is plenty of coverage in the media about this growing nuisance. New studies have shown that the safest and most effective way to exterminate bed bugs is the use of high heat to kill bed bugs, their eggs, and nymphs. Many companies that specialize in extermination of bed bugs are using the high heat methods in hotels, homes and other locations to kill bed bugs naturally.
In light of this information, Reasor Products, Inc. initiated testing to determine if the Pajama Warmer® could elevate temperatures to 120 degrees and above and effortlessly kill bed bugs, their eggs and nymphs in clothing and other cloth items.
BED BUG GIANT MICROBE PLUSH
This is what we did:
Place the Pajama Warmer with the desired item(s) inside on a non heat absorbing surface (the bed is perfect), plug in, turn on, cover bag with blanket or similar insulating medium (a pillow works well), leave on for 2 hours, temp will rise to 130 degrees. Turn off, allow to cool, remove items and shake. Bugs, eggs and nymphs will be dead. Bed bug proof your pajamas and other items, especially baby clothing items with this simple, effective method.
